The Greenwood Neighborhood of Seattle

Many of our beloved neighborhoods are or have been so transformed that they are almost unrecognizable. Urban density is good, especially around the new light rail stations that are finally opening! But it’s also nice to visit an old familiar friend, one with less construction, less 4-story apartments and a chiller vibe. Enter Greenwood. Oh, change is afoot, but you can still breath a little deeper here.

What’s so special about Greenwood? A whole lot…

Eating & Drinking - There are so many options in the Greenwood (and adjoining Phinney area) to list out here. Thai, Greek, Wings, Pubs (from fancy to chill), Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Pizza, Burgers and on and on and on. Just Google it and then let your mind wander and your mouth water.

Yep, at Gorditos Taqueria you can get a burrito the size of a baby!

2nd Friday of the month Art Walk aka Art Up PhinneyWood. This is not a “come for maybe 30 minutes” kind of art walk. This is an entire, fun-filled evening of walking, snacking and checking out what local artists are up to. The vibe is fun and filled with community spirit. The “Big-One”- a 2-day art party - happens in May!

Taproot Theatre - from their site “Founded in 1976, Taproot Theatre Company creates theatre experiences to brighten the spirit, engage the mind and deepen the understanding of the world around us while inspiring imagination, conversation and hope.” Perfect, live theatre with a soul. Subscription, please!

Shopping, Taking Care of Business and Hanging Out - Florist, Library, Hardware Store, Salons, Boutiques, Auto repair, Espresso Machine repair, Cabinet makers, Ballet lessons, if you need it done or just need it, it’s likely here. Oh, and for best hanging out…Chuck’s, beer for the adults and ice cream for the kids. Win-win! Check out the Phinney Neighborhood Association’s list of businesses (PNA serves the PhinneyWood area) for a bigger picture.
